This Great Depression bill forced states to create agencies to handle unemployment benefit distribution. Experience with these unemployment insurance benefits provided a guideline to states in administering later government programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, although unemployment benefits are a distinct program. 

New York unemployment benefits

New York unemployment benefits are handled by the Department of Labor. NYS unemployment benefits place small but not insignificant burdens on the individuals receiving New York State unemployment benefits, such as the requirement to continue searching for a job and keep records to document their search.

Illinois unemployment benefits

Unemployment benefits in Illinois are handled by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Illinois unemployment benefits can be applied for online, which the Illinois Department of Employment Security encourages all applicants to attempt, although this is not possible for all applicants. 

Ohio unemployment benefits

Applying for Ohio unemployment benefits through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services allows an individual to apply for unemployment benefits in Ohio as long as the person supplies their name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, Social Security Number, and employment history.

Colorado unemployment benefits is handled by the Division of Employment and Training, a part of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, which was authorized under the Colorado Employment Security Act. Missouri unemployment benefits

In the state of Missouri, unemployment benefits are distributed by the Missouri Department of Labor. In addition to Missouri unemployment benefits, the Department offers many other services to help the unemployed. 

Texas unemployment benefits

Texas unemployment benefits are authorized under the Unemployment Compensation Act. A Texas unemployment payment request can be made online, in person, or through the mail.
