Corruption
Typically speaking, the term corruption is employed within the realm of politics referring to a public figure or official engaging in questionable or criminal acts that use the position as means to provide for a personal benefit or gain. A person can engage in corrupt actions such as bribery, embezzlement, and extortion as a means of financial gain or to further the person's political career.
Corruption can also take forms which are not necessarily illegal, though may not be considered as moral or proper acts. An example could be an elected official giving a certain position to a family member or relative, even though there are others more qualified for such position.
Corruption has been an issue in government and politics throughout history. As individuals gain power and money, it may be a tendency for the same individuals to do whatever is necessary in order to maintain such perks in their lives for as long as possible.
