Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an alternative medicine that aims to treat patients by insertion and manipulation of thin needles in the human body. Since its origin, acupuncture has been regarded as the foundation of Traditional Chines medicine. The general theory behind this alternative medicine is based on the notion that bodily functions are regulated by qi—the body’s natural flow of energy. Acupuncture aims to balance this flow of energy by stimulating anatomical locations on or near the surface of the skin (acupuncture points). Although the therapy is relaxing and beneficial in a number of areas, scientific research has not found any biological or tangible acupuncture points.
Proponents of acupuncture therapy believe that it promotes health, treats infertility, relieves pains and treats disease or infections. That being said, again, scientific research has not found it productive for anything relating to the treatment of disease. Scientific research shows that acupuncture only helps relieve pain and nausea associated with complimentary treatments.
Mesothelioma Treatments and Acupuncture:
Acupuncture, although rejected by scientific research as a curative treatment option, is a well-known remedy for a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. That being said, acupuncture is not a cure for mesothelioma or any type of cancer. This treatment option is solely used as a pain reducer and a form of relaxation following typical mesothelioma treatment options, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The majority of patients who undergo acupuncture following a traditional mesothelioma treatment option say it is efficient means to relax and ease associated side effects.
Traditional mesothelioma treatment options are coupled with severe side effects, such as vomiting, chest pains and nausea. These side effects greatly hamper an individual’s quality of life. To mitigate such detriments, acupunctured treatment is often undertaken. In general, some of the benefits a mesothelioma patient will achieve through acupuncture include:
• Pain relief
• Treats nausea
• Helps relax organs and muscles
• Stimulates the growth of healthy cells
