Following a jury trial, the defendant, Scott Smado, was convicted ofattempted first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/8--4(a), 9--1(a)(1) (West 1996)). Hewas sentenced to 44 years of imprisonment. On appeal, the defendant argues (1)that his trial attorneys were ineffective by (a) failing to call alibiwitnesses, (b) withdrawing the defendant
