Defendant, Jesus B. Nunez, appeals from the judgment of the circuit courtof McHenry County, dismissing his petition for relief under the Post-ConvictionHearing Act (Act) (725 ILCS 5/122--1 et seq. (West 1998)). Defendant argues onappeal that the trial court erred in summarily dismissing his petition, whichalleged the ineffective assistance of trial and appellate counsel in violation ofhis federal and state constitutional rights.
