§ 59.1-425. Definitions.
As used in this chapter, unless the context requires a different meaning:
"Alternate operator services provider" means a telecommunications company,other than a local exchange company or interexchange company certificated bythe State Corporation Commission or an affiliate or agent of such a company,which provides intrastate long distance operator assisted services wherehuman or automated call intervention is necessary for obtaining billinginformation from the end-user. However, this exception for local exchangecompanies and interexchange companies applies only where the rates chargedare those of the local exchange company or interexchange company on file withthe State Corporation Commission.
"Person" means individual and entity.
"Public telephone equipment provider" means any person who makes availablefor public use telephone equipment with access to the public switched networkwhere a charge is made to the user for such use and intrastate local or longdistance service is provided through such equipment by an alternate operatorservices provider. This includes but is not limited to hotels, motels,airports, universities, hospitals, and coin-operated telephone equipmenteither privately owned or furnished by local exchange and interstate longdistance telephone companies.
