§ 53.1-16. Police power of internal investigators; training.
The Director may designate the inspector general of the Department and nomore than thirty members of the internal investigations unit of theDepartment to have the same powers as a sheriff or a law-enforcement officerin the investigation of allegations of criminal behavior affecting theoperations of the Department. Investigators so designated shall receive thetraining required by the Department of Criminal Justice Services forlaw-enforcement personnel before exercising such powers.
Nothing in this section shall be construed to grant the Department anyauthority over the operation and security of local jails which is notspecified in other provisions of law.
