§ 52-23. Appointment by Governor; power and jurisdiction.

The Governor may appoint whenever he deems the same necessary, and may removeat will, investigators and temporary special police officers, who shall bedirectly responsible to the Governor, be conservators of the peace and havejurisdiction throughout the Commonwealth in the enforcement of the laws ofthe Commonwealth. Such investigators and special police officers shall havein all the counties, cities and towns of the Commonwealth all the power andauthority, in connection with the enforcement of the laws of theCommonwealth, vested by law in sheriffs of the counties and police officersof cities and towns.
