§ 33.1-216. Authority of cities and towns and certain counties in connectionwith federal aid.
The cities and towns of this Commonwealth and also the several counties whichhave withdrawn from the provisions of Chapter 415 of the Acts of 1932, asamended, may comply fully with the provisions of the present or futurefederal-aid road acts and to this end they may enter into all contracts oragreements with the United States government or the appropriate agenciesthereof relating to the survey, construction, improvement and maintenance ofroads, streets and highways under their control and may do all other thingsnecessary to carry out fully the cooperation contemplated and provided for bythe present or future acts of Congress relating to the construction,improvement and maintenance of roads, streets and highways.
Such cities, towns or counties may also cooperate with the Board inconnection with any project for the survey, construction, improvement ormaintenance of any road, street or highway under their jurisdiction andcontrol which is eligible for federal aid under any present or futurefederal-aid road acts, and may by appropriate agreement or contract authorizethe Board to act on their behalf in any dealings necessary with the UnitedStates or any agency thereof and may authorize the Board to carry out suchsurvey, construction, improvement or maintenance work on such projects eitherwith or without participation therein by the city, town or county. Wheneverthe Board is given such authority by any such city, town or county, it may doall things contemplated and provided for by present or future federal-aidroad acts and the agreements made with such city, town or county.
