§ 30-267. (For expiration date - See notes) Membership; terms.
The Commission shall have a total membership of 13 members that shall consistof 10 legislative members, two nonlegislative citizen members, and one exofficio member. Members shall be appointed as follows: six members of theHouse of Delegates, including the Speaker of the House of Delegates, to beappointed by the Speaker of the House of Delegates in accordance with theprinciples of proportional representation contained in the Rules of the Houseof Delegates; four members of the Senate, including the President pro temporeof the Senate, to be appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules; and twononlegislative citizen members at large, one to be appointed by the Speakerof the House of Delegates and one to be appointed by the Senate Committee onRules. The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia HistoricalSociety or his designee shall serve ex officio with nonvoting privileges.Nonlegislative citizen members of the Commission shall be citizens of theCommonwealth. Unless otherwise approved in writing by the chairman of theCommission and the respective Clerk, nonlegislative citizen members shallonly be reimbursed for travel originating and ending within the Commonwealthfor the purpose of attending meetings.
Legislative members and the ex officio member of the Commission shall serveterms coincident with their terms of office. Nonlegislative citizen membersshall serve a term of four years. Appointments to fill vacancies, other thanby expiration of a term, shall be for the unexpired terms. Vacancies shall befilled in the same manner as the original appointments. All members may bereappointed.
The Commission shall elect a chairman and vice-chairman from among itsmembership, who shall be members of the General Assembly. The Commission mayname five of its members to constitute an executive committee, of whom oneshall be the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia HistoricalSociety, which shall act for the Commission pursuant to its direction.
