§ 3.2-2206. Management of referenda; Commissioner's duties; notice.
A. The Commissioner shall arrange for and manage any referendum conductedpursuant to this chapter, and shall, under regulations adopted by the Board,arrange for the use of polling places if necessary.
B. The Commissioner shall, 60 days before the date upon which a referendum isto be held, mail notice to the clerk of the circuit court in each localitywhere small grains are produced. The clerk of the circuit court shall postthe notice and regulations on the front door or public bulletin board of thecourthouse and certify the posting to the Commissioner. The Commissionershall, at least 60 days prior to the holding of any referendum under thischapter, give general notice of the referendum in a newspaper of generalcirculation in Richmond, Virginia, and send a notice of the referendum to anewspaper of general circulation for each area where small grains areproduced.
The notice shall contain the date, hours, polling place, and method of votingin such referendum, the amount of assessment to be collected, the means bywhich such assessment shall be collected, the general purposes for which theassessments will be used, and the regulations adopted by the Board pursuantto § 3.2-112.
C. The Commissioner shall prepare and distribute in advance of the referendumall necessary ballots, certificates, and supplies required for the referendum.
D. The Commissioner shall, within 10 days after the referendum, canvass andpublicly declare the results thereof and certify the same to the Governor andthe Board.
