§ 29.1-705. Change of ownership of motorboat; lost certificates.
Should the ownership of a numbered motorboat change, a new application formwith the appropriate fee as provided in § 29.1-702 shall be filed with theDepartment, and a new certificate bearing the same number shall be awarded inthe manner as provided for in an original award of number. If theregistration of the former owner is valid and the new owner has in hispossession the dated bill of sale and the valid registration card of theformer owner, the new owner may operate the vessel for thirty days from thedate of purchase. If a certificate is lost, a new certificate bearing thesame number shall be issued upon payment of a fee of fifty cents. Possessionof the certificate shall in cases involving prosecution for violation of anyprovision of this chapter be prima facie evidence that the person whose nameappears thereon is the owner of the boat.
