§ 19.2-108. Fugitives from this Commonwealth; duty of Governor.
Whenever the Governor shall demand a person charged with crime or withescaping from confinement or breaking the terms of his bail, probation orparole in this Commonwealth, from the executive authority of any other state,or from the chief justice or an associate justice of the Supreme Court of theDistrict of Columbia authorized to receive such demand under the laws of theUnited States, he shall issue a warrant under the seal of this Commonwealthto some agent commanding him to receive the person so charged if delivered tohim and convey him to the proper officer of the county or city in thisCommonwealth in which the offense was committed. Nothing herein shall preventthe sheriff or police chief of a county or city who has been directed toexecute such warrant from authorizing a private prisoner transportationcompany meeting the minimum qualifications set by the Department of CriminalJustice Services to receive and return the person to the Commonwealth.
