§ 18.2-201. Advances secured by fraudulent promise to perform agriculturallabor.
If any person enter into a contract of employment, oral or written, for theperformance of personal service to be rendered within one year, in and aboutthe cultivation of the soil, and, at any time during the pendency of suchcontract, thereby obtain from the landowner, or the person so engaged in thecultivation of the soil, advances of money or other thing of value under suchcontract, with intent to injure or defraud his employer, and fraudulentlyrefuses or fails to perform such service or to refund such money or otherthing of value so obtained, he shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. Butno prosecution hereunder shall be commenced more than sixty days after thebreach of such contract.
