49-5-5306. Term of employment, duties, and supplement of career level III principals.

(a)  A career level III principal shall work at least an eleven-month contract. The LEA may employ, in agreement with that person, a career level III principal on a twelve-month contract. Employment on an eleven- or twelve-month basis under the career ladder program shall concern only the amount of supplement and duties under such program but shall not affect the authority of the LEA through contract or employment agreement to employ persons for eleven (11) or twelve (12) months.

(b)  A career level III principal shall perform the duties defined by the local board of education, as provided in § 49-2-303(b), and other duties of principals contained elsewhere in this title. In addition, a career level III principal shall participate no more than ten (10) days each year in the evaluation of other candidates for career level positions. If it should prove necessary for principals to participate more than ten (10) days in evaluation, the principals shall be awarded sabbaticals in the manner provided for in former § 49-5-5208(b).

(c)  A career level III principal employed by an LEA on an eleven-month contract shall receive a five thousand dollar ($5,000) salary supplement from the state in addition to all other compensation to which the principal may be entitled subject to § 49-5-5308(e). A career level III principal employed by an LEA on a twelve-month contract shall receive a seven thousand dollar ($7,000) salary supplement from the state in addition to all other compensation to which the principal may be entitled subject to § 49-5-5308(e).

(d)  Furthermore, the educator shall be eligible for extended employment opportunities otherwise available to teachers, pursuant to the approved local plan required by § 49-5-5209.
