3-7-1. Law Enforcement Civil Service Commission created--Political affiliation of members--Appointment--Vacancy. There is created a Law Enforcement Civil Service Commission. The commission consists of five members to be appointed by the Governor for a term of four years. Not all of the members may be of the same political party. One member may be selected from five nominees submitted by a peace officers' association. One member may be selected from five nominees submitted by a fraternal order of police association. One member may be selected from five nominees submitted by a sheriffs' association. The nominations shall be transmitted to the Governor not later than thirty days before the expiration of any term, or in the case of a vacancy, not later than fifteen days after the vacancy exists. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy from other than the natural expiration of a term may serve for only the unexpired portion of the term.
