§ 5-29-14 Limited registration Academic faculty. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this chapter, a podiatrist ofnoteworthy and recognized professional attainment who is a clearly outstandingpodiatrist and who has been offered by the dean of a medical school or podiatryschool in this state a full-time academic appointment, is eligible for alimited registration while serving on the academic staff of the medical schoolor podiatry school. Upon recommendation of the dean of an accredited school ofmedicine, podiatry in this state, the board in its discretion, after beingsatisfied that the applicant is a graduate of a foreign podiatry school and aperson of professional rank whose knowledge and special training will benefitthat medical school, podiatry school may issue to that podiatrist a limitedregistration to engage in the practice of podiatry to the extent that thepractice is incidental to a necessary part of his or her academic appointmentand then only in the hospital or hospitals and out-patient clinics connectedwith the medical school or podiatry school. Except to the extent authorized bythis section, the registrant shall not engage in the practice of podiatry orreceive compensation for that practice, unless he or she is issued a license topractice podiatry. The registration is valid for a period of not more than oneyear expiring on the 30th day of June following its initial effective date butmay be renewed annually; provided, that such registration automatically expireswhen the holder's relationship with the medical school or podiatry school isterminated. The application fee for the registration authorized under thissection is five hundred and seventy dollars ($570). The application fee forbiennial renewal, as promulgated by the director, shall be not less than twohundred and eighty dollars ($280) nor more than four hundred dollars ($400).
