§ 5-19.1-3 State board of pharmacy Creation Membership Oath Vacancies. (a) Within the department of health, there shall be a board of pharmacy,consisting of nine (9) individuals, residents of the state of Rhode Island, oneof whom shall be a registered pharmacist who is currently employed in thedepartment of pharmacy at a hospital corporation in the state of Rhode Islandduring his or her term of appointment; two (2) of whom shall be activelyengaged in the practice of independent retail pharmacy; two (2) of whom shallbe representatives of the Rhode Island drug chain stores; two (2) of whom shallbe actively engaged in any field of pharmacy practice; and two (2) of whomshall be from the public. All members, except the public members, shall beregistered pharmacists and shall have been a licensed pharmacist for five (5)consecutive years in the state of Rhode Island immediately prior to appointment.
(b) Members of the board shall hold office for a term ofthree (3) years. Appointment of members shall occur as individual appointmentsexpire, such that the composition of the board will not be altered. Allappointments shall be made by the director of health with the approval of thegovernor.
(c) No person who has been appointed to and served for three(3) full consecutive three (3) year terms shall be eligible for appointment tothe board.
(d) Each member shall qualify by taking the usual oath of astate officer, which shall be filed with the secretary of state, and eachmember shall hold office for the term of his or her appointment and until hisor her successor is appointed and qualified.
In the case of the resignation or disqualification of amember, or a vacancy occurring from any cause, the director shall appoint asuccessor for the unexpired term.
