§ 42-26-18 Gang violence preventionadvisory committee. (a) There is established in the Rhode Island justice commission the gangviolence prevention advisory committee. The committee exists as a permanentsub-committee of the Rhode Island justice commission, juvenile justice advisorycommittee. The committee shall be composed of members of the Rhode Islandjustice commission, juvenile justice advisory committee, which currently existswithin the Rhode Island justice commission and is charged by the governor andthe office of juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, to address issuesrelating to delinquency and youth violence within the state. Membershipqualifications are described in subparagraphs (i) (iii) of §223(A)(3) of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974[42 U.S.C. § 5633(a)(A)(i) (iii)] as amended. Thefunction and structure of this committee along with its historic activities ingang intervention/prevention will enable it to carry out the intent of thissection.
(b) The gang violence prevention advisory committee shallcoordinate, review, purpose and oversee gang prevention, intervention, andsuppression programs on a state level. The committee shall also coordinate withRhode Island justice commission in efforts to obtain federal funds, grants, orother appropriations necessary and useful to carry out the purpose of thissection.
