SECTION 41-5-1
§ 41-5-1 License required for boxingexhibitions Amateur exhibitions exempt. (a) No boxing or sparring match or exhibition for a prize or a purse, or atwhich an admission fee is charged, either directly or indirectly, in the formof dues or otherwise, shall take place or be conducted in this state unlesslicensed by the division of racing and athletics in accordance with thischapter; provided, however, that the provisions of this chapter shall not applyto any boxing or sparring match or exhibition in which the contestants areamateurs and which is conducted under the supervision and control of:
(1) Any educational institution recognized by the board ofgovernors for higher education and the board of regents for elementary andsecondary education of this state, or
(2) Any religious or charitable organization or societyengaged in the training of youth and recognized as such by the division ofracing and athletics of this state.
(b) For the purposes of this section an "amateur" shall bedeemed to mean a person who engages in boxing or sparring contests orexhibitions for which no cash prizes are awarded to the participants, and forwhich the prize competed for, if any, shall not exceed in value the sum oftwenty-five dollars ($25.00).
