§ 31-20-17 Stopping for crossing guardsand school bus monitors required. (a) The driver of a vehicle upon a street or highway, upon meeting orapproaching from any direction a crossing guard, shall stop the vehicle beforereaching the crossing guard. The driver shall not proceed until signaled toproceed by the crossing guard or until the crossing guard has completed his orher duties of aiding the pedestrian safely to the sidewalk.
(b) The driver of any vehicle upon a street or highway, uponmeeting or approaching from any direction a school bus monitor, shall stop thevehicle in accordance with § 31-20-12 and shall not proceed until therequirements of § 31-20-12 are met.
(c) A person convicted of a violation of this section may bepunished by a fine not to exceed three hundred dollars ($300) and/or suspensionof his or her driving license for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days forthe first offense, and a fine not less than three hundred dollars ($300) normore than five hundred dollars ($500) and/or suspension of his or her drivinglicense for a period of one year for each subsequent offense.
