§ 23-65-2 Board of certification ofoperators of water supply treatment and distribution facilities. (a) There is hereby created within the department of health, a board ofcertification of operators of public water supply treatment and transmissionand distribution facilities to insure the proper management, operation andmaintenance of water supply treatment and distribution facilities.
(2) The board shall be comprised of seven (7) persons,including the director of the department of health, or his or her designee andsix (6) members appointed by the governor. Of the appointed members, one shallbe a registered professional engineer engaged in the practice of water supplyengineering, one shall be from a list of qualified operators of a publiclyowned water supply treatment facility in the state which has been recommendedby the executive committee of the Rhode Island water works association, oneshall be from a list of qualified directors of a water supply facility who hasgeneral supervisory authority for a water supply facility which has beenrecommended by the executive committee of the Rhode Island water worksassociation, one shall be a representative of a labor union, one shall be arepresentative of business or industry, and one shall be a residential consumerof water.
(b) Each member of the board shall serve for a term of four(4) years, provided, however, that of the initial members appointed to theboard by the governor, two (2) shall be appointed for terms of two (2) years,two (2) shall be appointed for terms of three (3) years, and two (2) shall beappointed for terms of four (4) years. As the term of office of a member of theboard expires, his or her successor shall be appointed in like manner for aterm of four (4) years provided that a member shall continue to serve until anappointment is made by the governor. Any vacancy shall be filled by thegovernor for the unexpired term.
(c) Any member of the board may be removed from office by thegovernor for good cause.
