§ 97‑7. State orsubdivision and employees thereof.
Neither the State nor anymunicipal corporation within the State, nor any political subdivision thereof,nor any employee of the State or of any such corporation or subdivision, shallhave the right to reject the provisions of this Article relative to payment andacceptance of compensation, and G.S. 97‑100(c) does not apply to them:Provided, that all such corporations or subdivisions are hereby authorized toself‑insure or purchase insurance to secure its liability under thisArticle and to include thereunder the liability of such subordinategovernmental agencies as the county board of health, the school board, andother political and quasi‑political subdivisions supported in whole or inpart by the municipal corporation or political subdivision of the State. Eachmunicipality is authorized to make appropriations for these purposes and tofund them by levy of property taxes pursuant to G.S. 153A‑149 and G.S.160A‑209 and by the allocation of other revenues whose use is nototherwise restricted by law.
