§ 74-24.6. Advisory Council.
§ 74‑24.6. AdvisoryCouncil.
(a) The Commissionershall appoint an Advisory Council consisting of 11 members to assist him in thedevelopment of safety and health standards for mines which are subject to thisArticle and to advise him on matters relating to safety and health in suchmines. Said Advisory Council shall include three members expressly qualified byexperience and affiliation to present the viewpoint of operators of such mines,three persons similarly qualified to present the viewpoint of workers in suchmines, and five members of the public sector with knowledge of miningoperations or associated health and safety aspects thereof. The Commissioner ofLabor shall annually designate one member to act as chairman. The members ofthe Advisory Council shall serve at the pleasure of the Commissioner and shallhave no specific term of office.
(b) The AdvisoryCouncil shall hold not fewer than two meetings during each calendar year, andsaid meetings shall be open to the public. The Commissioner shall furnish tothe Advisory Council such secretarial, clerical, and other services as he deemsnecessary to conduct its business.
(c) The members of theAdvisory Council shall be compensated for travel expenses and per diem asauthorized by the Commissioner in accordance with those amounts paid to Stateboards under Chapter 138 of the General Statutes.
(d) The Commissionermay from time to time select representatives of professional organizations oftechnicians, professional persons specializing in occupational safety andhealth, and representatives of State agencies who by experience and affiliationare qualified to present the viewpoint of operators of mines and workers inmines to assist the Advisory Council in performing its duties. Such persons,except State employees, selected for temporary purposes may be paid such perdiem and travel expenses for attending meetings as may be fixed by theCommissioner.
