§ 58‑3‑179. Coverage for colorectal cancer screening.
(a) Every healthbenefit plan, as defined in G.S. 58‑3‑167, shall provide coveragefor colorectal cancer examinations and laboratory tests for cancer, inaccordance with the most recently published American Cancer Society guidelinesor guidelines adopted by the North Carolina Advisory Committee on CancerCoordination and Control for colorectal cancer screening, for anynonsymptomatic covered individual who is:
(1) At least 50 years ofage, or
(2) Less than 50 yearsof age and at high risk for colorectal cancer according to the most recentlypublished colorectal cancer screening guidelines of the American Cancer Societyor guidelines adopted by the North Carolina Advisory Committee on CancerCoordination and Control.
The same deductibles,coinsurance, and other limitations as apply to similar services covered underthe plan apply to coverage for colorectal examinations and laboratory testsrequired to be covered under this section.
