§ 157‑53. Definitions.
(a) "Administration," as used in this Article, shallmean any and all undertakings necessary for management, operation ormaintenance, in connection with any project, and shall include the leasing ofany project (in whole or in part) from the federal government.
(b) "Development" as used in this Article, shall meanany and all undertakings necessary for the planning, land acquisition,demolition, financing, construction or equipment in connection with a project(including the negotiation or award of contracts therefor), and shall includethe acquisition of any project (in whole or in part) from the federalgovernment.
(c) "Federal government," as used in this Article,shall mean the United States of America or any agency or instrumentality,corporate or otherwise, of the United States of America.
(d) "Housing authority," as used in this Article,shall mean any housing authority established or hereafter established pursuantto Article 1 of this Chapter.
(e) The development of a project shall be deemed to be"initiated," within the meaning of this Article, if a housingauthority has issued any bonds, notes or other obligations with respect tofinancing the development of such project of the authority, or has contractedwith the federal government with respect to the exercise of powers hereunder inthe development of such project of the federal government for which anallocation of funds has been made prior to the termination of the present war.
(f) "Persons engaged in national defense activities,"as used in this Article shall include: enlisted personnel in the armed servicesof the United States and employees of the Defense Department assigned to dutyat armed forces reservations, posts or bases; and workers engaged or to beengaged in industries connected with and essential to the National DefenseProgram; and shall include the families of the aforesaid persons who are livingwith them.
(g) "Persons of low income," as used in this Article,shall mean persons or families who lack the amount of income which is necessary(as determined by the housing authority undertaking the housing project) toenable them, without financial assistance, to live in decent, safe and sanitarydwellings, without overcrowding.
(h) "State public body," as used in this Article,shall include the State, its subdivisions and agencies, and any county, city,town or incorporated village of the State. (1941, c. 63, s. 8; 1943, c. 90, s. 2; 1995, c. 379, s. 4.)
