§ 143B‑63. Historical Commission members; selection; quorum; compensation.
The Historical Commission of the Department of Cultural Resources shallconsist of 11 members appointed by the Governor.
The members of the North Carolina Historical Commission shall includethe members of the existing North Carolina Historical Commission who shallserve for a period equal to the remainder of their current terms on theCommission, plus four additional appointees of the Governor, two of whoseappointments shall expire March 31, 1979, and two of whose appointments shallexpire March 31, 1981. At the end of the respective terms of office of themembers, their successors shall be appointed for terms of six years and untiltheir successors are appointed and qualify. Of the members, at least five shallhave professional training or experience in the fields of archives, history,historic preservation, historic architecture, archaeology, or museumadministration, including at least three currently involved in the teaching ofhistory at the college or university level or in administering archives orhistorical collections or programs. Any appointment to fill a vacancy on theCommission created by resignation, dismissal, death, or disability of a membershall be for the balance of the unexpired term.
The Governor shall have the power to remove any member of theCommission from office for misfeasance, malfeasance or nonfeasance according tothe provisions of G.S. 143B‑13 of the Executive Organization Act of 1973.
The members of the Commission shall receive per diem and necessary travel and subsistence expenses in accordance with the provisions of G.S. 138‑5.
A majority of the Commission shall constitute a quorum for thetransaction of business.
All clerical and other services required by the Commission shall besupplied by the Secretary of Cultural Resources. (1973, c. 476, s. 45; 1977, c. 513, s. 1.)
