§143B‑394. North Carolina Council for Women members; selection; quorum;compensation.
The North Carolina Council forWomen of the Department of Administration shall consist of 20 members appointedby the Governor. The initial members of the Council shall be the appointedmembers of the North Carolina Council for Women, three of whose appointmentsexpire June 30, 1977, and four of whose appointments expire June 30, 1978. Thirteen additional members shall be appointed in 1977, six of whom shall serveterms expiring June 30, 1978, and seven of whom shall serve terms expiring June30, 1979. At the ends of the respective terms of office of the initial membersof the Council and of the 13 members added in 1977, the appointment of theirsuccessors shall be for terms of two years and until their successors areappointed and qualify. Any appointment to fill a vacancy on the Councilcreated by the resignation, dismissal, death, or disability of a member shallbe for the balance of the unexpired term. Members of the Council shall berepresentative of age, sex, ethnic and geographic backgrounds.
The Governor shall have thepower to remove any member of the Council from office in accordance with theprovisions of G.S. 143B‑16 of the Executive Organization Act of 1973.
The Governor shall designate amember of the Council to serve as chairman at the pleasure of the Governor.
Members of the Council shallreceive per diem and necessary travel and subsistence expenses in accordancewith the provisions of G.S. 138‑5.
A majority of the Councilshall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
All clerical and otherservices required by the Council shall be supplied by the Secretary ofAdministration. (1975, c. 879, s. 38; 1977, c. 818; 1991, c. 134, s.4.)
