§ 143A‑48.1. NorthCarolina Council on the Holocaust; creation; purpose; membership; expenses;assistance.
(a) There is herebycreated the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust. The purpose of the Councilis to prevent future atrocities similar to the systematic program of genocideof six million Jews and others by the Nazis. This purpose shall be accomplishedby developing a program of education and observance of the Holocaust.
(b) The Council shallconsist of 24 members, six appointed by the Governor, six appointed by thePresident Pro Tempore of the Senate, six appointed by the Speaker of the Houseof Representatives, and six appointed by the other 18 members. Members shall beappointed for two‑year terms to begin July 1 of each odd‑numberedyear. The six at‑large appointments shall be made by the Council at itsfirst meeting after July 1 of each odd‑numbered year. To be eligible forappointment as an at‑large member, a person must either be a survivor ofthe Holocaust or a first‑generation lineal descendant of such person. Amajority of the members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction ofbusiness.
(c) The members of theCouncil shall be compensated and reimbursed for their expenses in accordancewith G.S. 138‑5.
(d) The Superintendentof Public Instruction may arrange for clerical or other assistance required bythe Council. (1985,c. 757, s. 81(a); 1989, c. 47; 1995, c. 490, s. 23; 2002‑126, s.10.10D(a), (b).)
