§130A‑36. Creation of district health department.
(a) A district healthdepartment including more than one county may be formed in lieu of countyhealth departments upon agreement of the county boards of commissioners andlocal boards of health having jurisdiction over each of the counties involved.A county may join a district health department upon agreement of the boards ofcommissioners and local boards of health having jurisdiction over each of thecounties involved. A district health department shall be a public authority asdefined in G.S. 159‑7(b)(10).
(b) Upon creation of oraddition to a district health department, the existing rules of the formerboard or boards of health shall continue in effect until amended or repealed bythe district board of health.
