§130A‑114. Fetal death registration.
(a) Each spontaneousfetal death occurring in the State of 20 completed weeks gestation or more, ascalculated from the first day of the last normal menstrual period until the dayof delivery, shall be reported within 10 days after delivery to the localregistrar of the county in which the delivery occurred. The report shall bemade on a form prescribed and furnished by the State Registrar.
(b) When fetal deathoccurs in a hospital or other medical facility, the person in charge of thefacility shall obtain the cause of fetal death and other required medicalinformation over the signature of the attending physician, and shall prepareand file the report with the local registrar.
(c) When a fetal deathoccurs outside of a hospital or other medical facility, the physician inattendance at or immediately after the delivery shall prepare and file thereport. When a fetal death is attended by a person authorized to attendchildbirth, the supervising physician shall prepare and file the report. Fetaldeaths attended by lay midwives and all other persons shall be treated asdeaths without medical attendance as provided for in G.S. 130A‑115 andthe medical examiner shall prepare and file the report.
