§ 127A‑43. NorthCarolina National Guard Meritorious Service Medal.
There is hereby created theNorth Carolina National Guard Meritorious Service Medal which shall be ofappropriate design, and a ribbon, together with a rosette or other device to beworn in lieu thereof. This medal and appurtenances thereto shall be of a designapproved by the Governor or his designated representative. The Governor or hisdesignated representative is authorized to award this medal upon therecommendation of the Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety inconsultation with the Adjutant General and a board of officers appointed by theAdjutant General. Any member or former member of the armed forces dischargedunder honorable conditions, who has distinguished himself by heroism,meritorious achievement, or meritorious service to the North Carolina NationalGuard, is eligible for this award. The Governor, on his own authority, mayaward such medal to the Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety, theAdjutant General or any other active or inactive general officer of the armedforces who has distinguished himself by heroism, meritorious achievement, ormeritorious service to the North Carolina National Guard. The required heroism,achievement, or service, while of a lesser degree than that required forawarding of the North Carolina Distinguished Service Medal, must neverthelessbe accomplished with distinction.
