§ 127A‑194. Eligibility.
(a) Active members ofthe North Carolina National Guard who are enrolled or who shall enroll in anybusiness or trade school, private educational institution, or State educationalinstitution shall be eligible to apply for this tuition assistance benefit:Provided, that the applicant has a minimum obligation of two years remaining asa member of the National Guard from the end of the academic period for whichtuition assistance is provided or that the applicant commit himself or herselfto extended membership for at least two additional years from the end of thatacademic period.
(b) This tuitionassistance benefit shall be applicable to students in the following categories:
(1) Students seeking toachieve completion of their secondary school education at a community collegeor technical institute.
(2) Students seekingtrade or vocational training or education.
(3) Students seeking toachieve a two‑year associate degree.
(4) Students seeking toachieve a four‑year baccalaureate degree.
(5) Students seeking toachieve a graduate degree.
(c) The followingpersons shall be eligible to apply for disbursements to pay outstanding studentloans pursuant to G.S. 127A‑195(g):
(1) Persons described insubsections (a) and (b) of this section.
(2) Active members ofthe North Carolina National Guard who were previously enrolled in any businessor trade school, private educational institution, or State educationalinstitution, but only if:
a. The applicant has aminimum obligation of two years remaining as a member of the National Guardfrom the time of the application; or
b. The applicantcommits himself or herself to extended membership for at least two additionalyears from the time of the application. (1975, c. 917, s. 6; 1977, c. 228, ss. 3, 4; 2008‑94,s. 4.)
