21-5-7. Superintendents of school districts required to report blind children.

Superintendents of all school districts in the state, on August 1 and January 1 in each year, shall report to the superintendent of the New Mexico institute for the blind [New Mexico school for the visually handicapped] whether or not there are blind children of legal school age within their respective districts; the required report shall include a complete list of all such children. It shall be the duty of the superintendent of the institute [school] to communicate to the parent, guardian or person having custody or control of each blind child the provisions of this act [21-5-6, 21-5-7 NMSA 1978]. The superintendent of the institute [school] shall notify the state board of education of the failure of any superintendent of a school district to render a report required by this section.
