52:9V-1. Christopher Columbus quincentennial observance commission; membership; vacancies; compensation; qualifications
There is created the Christopher Columbus Quincentennial Observance Commission (hereinafter referred to as the commission) which shall consist of two members of the Senate and two public members, appointed by the President of the Senate, two members of the General Assembly and two public members, appointed by the Speaker of the General Assembly, and six public members and two officials of the executive branch, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. No more than one of each group of two members appointed by the President and the Speaker and no more than four of the group of eight members appointed by the Governor shall be of the same political party.
Vacancies in the membership of the commission shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointments were made. All members shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for their expenses actually incurred in the performance of their duties.
Selections of public members shall be made on the basis of their academic experience, their expertise or interest in historical research, or their experience in promoting community programs and activities.
