Section 284:8 Assistants.
The commission is authorized to employ such assistants and employees as it may deem necessary to provide adequate policing and to carry out the purposes hereof at such compensation per racing program as the commission may prescribe, subject to the regulations of the state personnel commission. The commission shall specify the duties to be performed by its assistants and employees and it shall have authority, for cause, to terminate the employment of any member of its personnel, subject to the regulations of the state personnel commission. It shall be unlawful, however, for the commission to appoint to any position under its jurisdiction any state, county, city, or town official or employee, except police officers and public school teachers, whose total annual salary or compensation from said state, county, city, or town exceeds $1,000.
