266.455  Deputies: Appointment; powers; compensation.  The city officers, except the mayor, council members and municipal judge, may, after being first duly authorized by ordinance of the city council, appoint a deputy or deputies who have the same powers as their principals and whose compensation may be prescribed by the city council. The city council may authorize the appointment of a deputy on condition that no charge be made against the city for the deputy’s services.

      NRS 266.460  Duties of officers may be defined by ordinance.  The duties, powers and privileges of all officers in any way connected with the city government, not defined in this chapter, shall be defined by the city council; and the defining by this chapter of the duties of city officers shall not preclude the city council from defining by ordinance further and additional duties to be performed by any such officer.
