630.025. 1. The head of the department shall be thedirector, whose salary shall be set by the commission at anamount not to exceed the appropriations made for that purpose.The director shall not provide consulting services outside hisofficial employment, and his salary shall be the sole personalservice income of the director; except, that the director shallnot be prevented from receiving compensation from writing andpresenting professional papers and publications.
2. Before entering upon the discharge of his duties, thedirector shall take an oath to support the Constitution of theUnited States and the Constitution of the State of Missouri andto faithfully demean himself in the office to which he has beenappointed.
3. The director shall be the chief executive officer of thedepartment and shall perform such duties and exercise such powersas may be imposed or conferred upon him by law.
4. Except as otherwise provided by law, the director mayrequest the governor to reorganize the internal organization ofthe department as authorized under sections 26.500 to 26.540,RSMo.
5. The director shall have power to make inquiries andinvestigations and to hold such hearings as may be necessary inpursuance of his duties, and for such purpose he may subpoenawitnesses and documents, administer oaths and provide for paymentand expense of witnesses.
