Summer employment program--at-risk participants, remediation.
620.562. 1. The summer employment program shall consist ofprojects offering needed paid work experience integrated witheducational activities which may include, but is not limited to,employability skills training and educational remediationactivities. Participants shall be unemployed at the time oftheir enrollment.
2. Participants in the program shall be paid a wageaccording to a work plan approved by the division of jobdevelopment and training, and commensurate with the number ofhours worked by the participant. If participants are high schooldropouts, they shall be required to work toward the completion oftheir graduate equivalency diploma while employed in the summeremployment and remediation program. The division of jobdevelopment and training shall work with the department ofelementary and secondary education to establish criteria fordetermining participants who may be at risk of not earning a highschool diploma. Participants who meet these criteria shall berequired to attend remediation* classes designed to assist in theretention and successful completion of high school.
