Community services and conservation program.
620.560. 1. The community services and conservationprogram for young adults shall consist of projects offeringparticipants paid work experience integrated with educationalactivities which may include, but is not limited to,employability skills training and educational remediationactivities.
2. Participants who are high school dropouts shall worktoward the completion of their graduate equivalency diploma andshall be excused from work according to a planned work scheduleproposed by the project sponsor and approved by the division ofjob development and training in its review of a projectapplication, to allow them to attend classes or gain instruction.The division of job development and training shall work with thedepartment of elementary and secondary education to establishcriteria for determining participants who may be at risk of notearning a high school diploma. Participants who meet thesecriteria shall be required to attend remediation classes designedto assist in the retention and successful completion of highschool according to a planned work schedule proposed by theproject sponsor and approved by the division in its review of aproject application. All participants shall be paid a wageaccording to a work plan approved by the division, andcommensurate with the number of hours worked by the participant.During the last three weeks of employment, all participants maybe granted eight hours of paid time each week to search forpermanent employment.
