Office of rural development created--director, appointment--powers andduties--staff.
620.161. 1. There is hereby created within thedepartment of economic development an "Office of RuralDevelopment". The office of rural development shall beunder the supervision and control of a director, who shallbe appointed by the director of the department of economicdevelopment. Until June 30, 2000, the office of ruraldevelopment shall be responsible for providing staff supportto the Missouri rural economic development council. Theoffice shall assist qualifying rural communities located inthis state to achieve the following goals, which are listedin order of priority:
(1) Assist existing businesses and employers to ensuretheir viability within the rural communities;
(2) Assist existing businesses and employers in jobcreation and expansion within the communities and assist inthe identification of financing alternatives;
(3) Provide assistance to communities in attractingnew employers;
(4) Assist existing businesses and encourage newbusinesses which promote resource recovery, wasteminimalization, and recycling.
2. Subject to appropriations by the general assembly,the director of the office of rural development shall employsupport staff that he deems necessary to administer thisact*.
