Application to offenses committed before and after enactment.
556.031. 1. The provisions of this code shall govern theconstruction and punishment for any offense defined in this codeand committed after January 1, 1979, as well as the constructionand application of any defense to a prosecution for such anoffense.
2. Offenses defined outside of this code and not repealedshall remain in effect, but unless otherwise expressly providedor unless the context otherwise requires, the provisions of thiscode shall govern the construction of any such offenses committedafter January 1, 1979, as well as the construction andapplication of any defense to a prosecution for such offenses.
3. The provisions of this code do not apply to or govern theconstruction of and punishment for any offense committed prior toJanuary 1, 1979, or the construction and application of anydefense to a prosecution for such an offense. Such an offensemust be construed and punished according to the provisions of lawexisting at the time of the commission thereof in the same manneras if this code had not been enacted, the provisions of section1.160, RSMo, notwithstanding.
