Appointment--powers generally.
486.100. The governor may appoint and commission in anyother state, in the District of Columbia, in each of theterritories of the United States, and in any foreign country, oneor more commissioners, who shall continue in office during thepleasure of the governor, and shall have authority to takerelinquishments of dower of married women, the acknowledgment orproof of the execution of any deed or other conveyance, or leaseof any lands lying in this state, or of any contract, letters ofattorney, or of any other writing, under seal or note, to be usedand recorded in this state; and such commissioners appointed forany foreign country shall also have authority to certify to theofficial character, signature or seal of any officer within theirdistrict, who is authorized to take acknowledgments ordeclarations under oath.
