301.679. 1. A certificate of ownership for a motor vehicleor trailer issued in the names of two or more persons that doesnot show on the face of the certificate that the persons holdtheir interest in the motor vehicle or trailer as tenants incommon, on death of one of the named persons, may be transferredto the surviving owner or owners. On proof of death of one ofthe persons in whose names the certificate was issued, surrenderof the outstanding certificate of ownership, and on applicationand payment of the fee for an original certificate of ownership,the director of revenue shall issue a new certificate ofownership for the motor vehicle or trailer to the surviving owneror owners; and the current valid certificate of number shall beso transferred.
2. A certificate of ownership for a motor vehicle ortrailer, issued in the names of two or more persons that shows onits face that the persons hold their interest in the motorvehicle or trailer as tenants in common, on death of one of thenamed persons, may be transferred by the director of revenue onapplication by the surviving owners and the personalrepresentative or successors of the deceased owner. Upon beingpresented proof of death of one of the persons in whose names thecertificate of ownership was issued, surrender of the outstandingcertificate of ownership, and on application and payment of thefee for an original certificate of ownership, the director ofrevenue shall issue a new certificate of ownership for the motorvehicle or trailer to the surviving owners and personalrepresentative or successors of the deceased owner; and thecurrent valid certificate of number shall be so transferred.
