Division to close coal mine, when--penalty.
293.470. The director of the division of mine inspection andhis assistants shall have the power, and it is hereby made theirduty, to stop the operation of and close any coal mine or partthereof where poisonous damps exist, where rotten ropes or unsafecages are used, or where a safe escape way is not provided, forall employees. Any person or persons violating the provisions ofthis section, and any member or stockholder or officer of anycompany or corporation who shall violate the provisions of thissection, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and onconviction thereof be punished by a fine of not less thantwenty-five dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, orimprisonment in the county jail thirty days nor more than ninetydays, or by both such fine and imprisonment for each and everyseparate offense.
