293.160. Electrical equipment requirements.

Electrical equipment requirements.

293.160. 1. Metal conduit and metallic coverings and armorof cables shall be grounded and shall be electrically continuousto afford a conductor path for the ground circuit.

2. Metallic frames, casings, and other electrical equipmentthat can become "alive" through failure of insulation by contactwith energized parts shall be grounded.

3. Casings of transformers shall be grounded unlessprotected by isolation or freedom from contact hazard byposition.

4. Mining equipment mounted on rubber tires or caterpillartreads receiving power through a trailing cable shall be groundedeffectively.

5. All trolley and positive feed wires crossing places wherepersons or animals are required to travel shall be safely guardedor protected.

6. Dry wooden platforms, rubber mats, or other electricallynonconductive material shall be kept in place at each switchboardand power control switch, and at stationary machinery where shockhazards exist.

7. Readily accessible fuses or equivalent protective devicesof the correct type and capacity shall be installed on electricequipment to protect against excessive overload. Wires or otherconducting materials shall not be used as a substitute forproperly designed fuses, and where circuit breakers are used, they shall be maintained in good operating condition and adjustedso that equipment cannot be overloaded.
