288.230. 1. In the discharge of the duties imposed by thislaw, the director, the commission, an appeals tribunal, and anyduly authorized representative of any of them shall have power toadminister oaths and affirmations, take depositions, certify toofficial acts, and issue subpoenas to compel the attendance ofwitnesses and the production of books, papers, correspondence,memoranda, and other records deemed necessary as evidence inconnection with a disputed determination or any other phase ofthe administration of this law. Witnesses subpoenaed pursuant tothis subsection shall be allowed mileage and per diem at a ratefixed by the division. Such fees shall be deemed a part of theexpense of administering this law.
2. No person shall be excused from attending and testifyingor from producing books, papers, correspondence, memoranda andother records before the director, the commission, an appealstribunal, or any duly authorized representative of any of them onthe ground that the testimony or evidence, documentary orotherwise, required of him may tend to incriminate him or subjecthim to a penalty or forfeiture; but no individual shall beprosecuted or subjected to any penalty or forfeiture for or onaccount of any transaction, matter, or thing concerning which heis compelled, after having claimed his privilege againstself-incrimination, to testify or produce evidence, documentaryor otherwise, except that such individual so testifying shall notbe exempt from prosecution and punishment for perjury committedin so testifying.
