217.592. 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any otherlaw to the contrary, the director may acquire from or lease oneor more buildings or portions of buildings on the grounds of anycorrectional center, together with the real estate needed forreasonable access to and egress from the leased building, for aterm to be decided upon by the director and the lessee, to aprivate individual, firm, corporation, or other lawful entity forthe purpose of establishing and operating a plasmapheresisprogram.
2. Subject to the approval by the director, any corporationoperating a plasmapheresis program under this section may employand discharge from such employment selected offenders of thecorrectional center where it operates.
3. The authority of the director over the correctionalcenters of the department and the offenders in such correctionalcenters shall not be diminished by this section.
4. The plasmapheresis program when operated from or withinany correctional center under the department shall be deemed avocational enterprise.
