Definitions.

209.261. As used in sections 209.261 to 209.265, thefollowing terms mean:

(1) "Auxiliary aids and services", the device or servicethat the deaf person feels would best serve him which includes,but is not limited to, interpreters, notetakers, transcriptionservices, written materials, assistive listening devices,assistive listening systems, closed caption decoders, open andclosed captioning, videotext display or other effective method ofmaking aurally delivered materials available to individuals withhearing loss;

(2) "Deaf person", any person who, because of a hearingloss, is not able to discriminate speech when spoken in a normalconversational tone regardless of the use of amplificationdevices;

(3) "Person with a speech impairment", any person who,because of a speech disability, is not able to speak clearly orunderstandably in a normal conversational tone regardless of theuse of assistive devices;

(4) "Relay agent", a person employed to relay conversationsfor a person who is deaf or speech impaired over a dual-partytelephone system.
