Citation of law, definitions.

208.600. 1. Sections 208.600 to 208.630 shall be known andmay be cited as the "Elderly Health and Nutrition Act of 1994".

2. As used in sections 208.600 to 208.630, the followingterms mean:

(1) "Elderly hunger", the lack of sufficient food ornutrition, or food and nutrition, to maintain health or moralethat may be caused by a variety of factors including poverty,isolation, medical, mental or dental problems, lack of knowledgeof helping programs, lack of transportation, fear of crime orother causes;

(2) "Elderly person", a Missouri citizen who is sixty yearsof age or older;

(3) "Food bank", a food collection and distribution agency,of which there are at least six in Missouri, which is organizedfor the purpose of distributing emergency food supplies tolow-income people who would otherwise not have access to foodsupplies;

(4) "Gatekeeper programs", programs designed to usenontraditional referral sources, who through their regularbusiness activities come in contact with elderly persons, tosystematically locate those isolated, living alone or in need ofsome type of assistance in order to allow such persons tomaintain independence.
